Time is NOT Money. Don’t Believe the LIE
You hear people say all the time that time is money. This is not true. This is a lie that has been told for years. Time is infinitely more valuable than money, ask any rich person that’s on their deathbed.

Ep. 044 - The Hard Way: Lessons from Chad Decker on how to build a brand & live your dream life
Chad Decker and his family has built one of the most recognizable BBQ brands in North Texas if not all of Texas. It’s a destination restaurant for many visiting the area.
The coolest thing about it though is how they built it and where Chad came from. This is a story I love to see because he built a thriving business and is now able to live his dream of roping and ranching.
Chad was raised around and involved in ranching and roping his whole life and knowing he wasn’t cut out for school he got a job to make a living.
Chad soon found out he wasn’t cut out for that either and decided to pursue a career that involved horses.
Through years of hustle training horses, flagging ropings, working different jobs, and anything he could do to support his family he finally came up with the idea of a BBQ restaurant.
There was an obvious need for BBQ in Stephenville because they opened with a BANG (literally) and stayed busy but there was a lot of learning to be had about the business.
Through lots of hours Chad and his family learned the business inside and out and have been able to expand and replace theirselves in the business.
Chad is now living his dream of raising rope horses and ranching through Hardway Land and Livestock.
Look out for their horses and if you’re in the area you definitely need to stop at Hard Eight BBQ.

Ep. 043 - Where There is Beef, There is Freedom: Shad Sullivan on Ranching and Standing up for What You Believe
Shad grew up in the ranching business in southeast Colorado.
Something that stood out to me is his family’s ability to pivot as a lot of people get stuck in their ways.
The family realized how seasonal their grass was and pivoted to a yearling operation.
They then realized they could add even more value if they bought these cattle lighter and ran them in TX through the winter.
Through some learning experiences they were able to expand to Archer Co., TX and sent Shad to take care of the operation.
Like many of us raised in that lifestyle Shad developed a set of values. When he saw these under attack starting during Covid he decided to start voicing his opinion and standing up for those values.
Shad stands up for what he believes in and fights for it while also running his beef operation at home.

He decided that he wanted to become the best at shoeing one so he put all his effort into learning and practicing his trade.
He’s come a long way from carrying a handful of tools around in a five gallon bucket and taking any horse he could get as now if you want him to shoe your horse you have to come to his facility.
He not only has become a master at his craft but he loves helping other people find mastery too.
Lee not only has an apprenticeship program for young guys wanting to get started in the industry but he also helps entrepreneurs in general.

You probably have heard of all these guys as they’ve all had success as cutting horse trainers.

Tarin came up with the idea to help with bringing all the horses they were selling to one marketplace and he brought Matt and Kody in for strategic partners. The team keeps growing as the business keeps growing.
There was such a need for that particular business that it’s been a success from the start and exponentially growing.

Ep. 040 - Building for the Future: Tyler McCall’s Vision of Entrepreneurship & Ranching Success
Tyler McCall started his career in the oilfield because the time off and the money allowed him to do what he really wanted to do, ranch.
Tyler worked his way up from a hand on the rig to a management position just by putting in the effort and keeping his word.
He realized the next promotion would stick him in a full time office position so he decided it was time to go out on his own.
Rafter J Construction was born. Rafter J started as an equipment rental company mainly for oilfield, solar, and wind jobs. They also saw and opportunity to actually do some of the dirt work and construction theirselves so Rafter J now offers that service as well.
Building a company has taken up quite a bit of Tyler’s time but he still ranches. His operation now is primarily based on running sale barn calves on wheat.
Like a lot of us Tyler wants to build his company big enough to sell and be able to buy a big enough ranch for him and his family to make a good living on.

Ep. 039 - Brad Glenn’s Redemption: Bootmaking, Cactus Alley, and The Art of Starting Over
Brad Glenn had to hit rock bottom and ruin his reputation to figure out what he was supposed to do in life.
This makes what he’s been able to build even more impressive.
He doesn’t take credit for it though he puts it all in God’s hands.
Brad is one of the top handmade bootmakers in the industry and is truly an artist. He built this business from nothing and with a bad reputation but by becoming a student and always upholding his word his order book stays full.
As Brad built his boot business he also stumbled upon making caps and apparel.
Cactus Alley Hat Co has burst on the scene into western stores across the nation. Again this is because Brad is always innovating. He’s always working on new designs and trying new things.
Check out Brad’s incredible story from rock bottom to now doing business with CEOs of major companies and cowboys alike.

Building Solutions for Ranchers: The De-Ax Journey with Dean and Dax - Ep 038
Dean Lopez and Dax Stokes like many of us knew nothing but hustle and hard work to make money.
They still have this mentality but now they’re using that hustle and hard work to build their own company instead of someone else’s.
De-Ax Trailer Sales was founded to solve Dean and Dax’s own problems of the need for new equipment but not being able to afford the prices of the brands that were out there.
Luckily they thought that other people would want to buy these same quality products at a lower price than the name brands.
They were correct.
De-Ax prides theirselves in being heavily connected and involved in the farming, ranching, and rodeo industries so they know the issues that everyone deals with and they can build their products to solve those issues. They’re also very connected to the community so if you need something custom they can build it or if there’s an issue with a product they can solve it for you.

Ep 037 - Wheat Field to City Hall: Tucker Teague’s Journey from Cowboy to Mayor
Tucker Teague is young but he has lots of experience.
Tucker grew up not wanting to do anything but be in the cattle business and that was confirmed after a short stint in college.
He didn’t want to sit in a classroom and learn he just wanted to get out there and get real world experience.
Tucker got his opportunity starting out small and also working for his family.
Teague Cattle has turned into a very large operation based out of Hamlin TX. Early on he found out that he had to make sure the office and the numbers were in order so he had to give up some of the cowboy work that he enjoys.
Tucker also places a lot of importance in community. So he has invested in many different areas of Hamlin from real estate to businesses and he even became the mayor.
You’ll really enjoy this episode as you hear the story of how Tucker goes from turning out 11,000hd of cattle on wheat to becoming a small business owner to becoming the mayor of a small town.

Ep 036 - The Relentless Ride: Rise of Miles Baker
You may think Miles Baker was an overnight success as many people not in close proximity to him had never heard of him before he partnered with The King of the Cowboys and was featured on ads and social media everywhere but Miles had been working very hard long before he made it to the limelight.
Miles grew up ranching and roping where all he knew was hard work.
He was making a living riding colts for clients and ranching before he got the opportunity to become a partner in Relentless Remuda.
Miles would build a horse from the ground up by first ranching on them on their operation and then taking them to the roping pen. His horses started to catch the eye of several people which led to new opportunities.
Relentless Remuda now dominates the rope horse futurities but Miles has not let that change him. They still start long before daylight and go until after dark making some of the best rope horses in the industry.

Ep. 035 - Behind Burger Brilliance: Lee Wells’ Story of Grit and Entrepreneurship
Lee Wells grew up on a dairy farm. If you don’t know anything about a dairy farm it’s similar to other farming and ranching operations in the sense that the work never stops.
The cows had to be milked twice a day seven days a week with no days off and there was plenty to do in between milkings.
Lee decided to pursue a degree in technology to get him away from the farm and live a different kind of life.
The economy forced the company Lee worked for to lay him and many others off so he decided to try entrepreneurship.
After some success with his equipment and construction company the economy forced him to shut down yet again.
Lee had to start over again. He got creative and used the skills he knew to start a new venture.
He was able to build this one up to success yet again.
After the passing of his father he needed to go back home and help take care of the place that he grew up on.
This allowed Lee to get creative yet again and he started selling beef which then evolved into opening up a burger restaurant.
Check out his crazy story of building success and then having to start over and being able to do that over and over again.

Jeremy didn’t know what he wanted to do when he got out of school but he did know he wanted to be involved with the horse industry.
He took a job where he got to do just that. He was involved in cleaning their stalls, feeding them, and generally caring for them. Through hard work he and willingness to learn he worked his way up to training them.
The only problem was he was in Georgia and the heart of performance horse country was TX.
Jeremy made the bold choice of quitting his job and loading up and heading for TX.
In the Stephenville area he found work assisting other trainers, training horses for clients, and buying and selling his own horses.
Jeremy became one of the top cutting horse trainers of the day but knew he wanted to branch out into business.
This led to the purchase of Western Bloodstock and the start of Brazos Valley Stallion Station.
He hasn’t stopped there he more recently acquired Triangle Horse Sales and is involved with Gold Buckle Futurities.

Ep. 033 - Building a Beef Empire with Austin Tarrant
Austin wanted to be a pilot from a very young age.
Most people doubted his big dream when he was a kid especially being from a small town that is disconnected from that world.
Austin didn’t listen to the doubt and pursued his passion to be a pilot by first flying helicopters and then planes.
This meant working in the big city and dealing with wealthy individuals.
Austin realized his growth was limited after hearing from one of his clients that he’ll never be able to ride in the back of the private plane if he’s flying it in the front.
This started the search for opportunity and change and the desire to build something of his own and being able to raise a family in the same small town country environment that he grew up in.
He turned to agriculture and cattle but realized that was long hours and sometimes short pay, so he kept his eyes open for more opportunities.
Austin was able to start a business that stayed in line with his passion for beef, Flying T Meat Market.
A chance meeting with a customer developed into a new venture also in the beef business, Trail Ridge Beef Jerky.

Ep. 031 - Beef For The Hungry: Feeding TX with Noel McAlexander
Noel looks at problems as opportunities.
Anyone that team ropes knows that when a roping steer is wore out he’s not worth very much compared to what you have to pay for a fresh one.
Noel was tired of getting very little out of these cattle at the salebarn when cattle were cheap so he was looking for other solutions.
He had heard of the 1017 Project where they turn wore out ropers into beef for the hungry. The wheels started turning on how he could do something similar in Central TX.
What started as a backyard deal with Noel and a few roping buddies has grown to multiple locations and TX Beef Initiative provides high quality protein for hungry people across the state.

Ep. 028 - Cattle Business Mastery: Wesley Wood’s Risk Management and Growth Strategies
Wesley got started by partnering with his dad on one load of calves turned out on oats.
This one load turned out to be profitable enough to get Wesley hooked.
He grew his operation from just turning out one load of cattle on winter grain to buying, selling, grazing, and feeding multiple loads of cattle year round.
Wesley credits his success to luck (which we know is not the only factor lol), having a good banker behind him, and learning risk management.
If you’re in the cattle business or want to be you need to tune in to this one and even though we talk a lot about the cattle business you can apply a lot of the knowledge to general business.
